I agree with you. When i drew this one i remember being unsure if i wanted to give some sort of 'cut out' look to the picture or have something a bit more regular. I think that's why the picture looks a bit undetermined on certain details. I'm really not happy with the background too. This was something i really had to improve. ^^
I do like the color choices though.

I really do love how this looks and if anything, the only stuff I I can really say that seems a bit off is the arm of the fox. The squareness of the shoulder seems to appear more 'tacked on' than being a part of his body. Perhaps trying with a more rounded look might have been better! Additionally, there could have been more defined footprints trailing them as they walked. There's a couple but I don't see really anything trailing them in that regard.
Otherwise, I do love how it turned out!
