An Imposing Figure (critique requested)

LeccathuFurvicael

My first ever commissioned bust sculpture, from the ever wonderful Morghus! I spent most of my time futzing with materials and lighting, of course, but the result is pretty decent all told. A great opportunity to experiment and play!

A lot of the anatomical elements were introduced independently - the fin rays, earfins, dorsal sail membrane, and ventral scutes (and the scales beside them) were all made separately and then added to the main sculpt afterward. The sail membrane actually was a cube to start with, believe it or not!

Thank you so much Morghus, for your time and business! This was an utter pleasure to do!

This sculpt is worth $60, with all the time spent with materials and such.

Media: ZBrush 4r6, Photoshop CS6
Time: ~7-8 hours

the shape of the nostrils makes me curious tho

I believe the nostrils were originally designed like horses' nostrils, to bring in as much air as possible - these do look different from the front, though, for sure. Thanks!

that makes sense, at first I thought they were meant to be able to close and open like certain sea critters can do with their nostrils

This is really good! I've tried Zbrush myself and good jesus it's hard to get a hang of. I have mad respect for people who can do work this detailed on such a program.

It really is quite confusing at first, especially if you try to learn too many facets of the workflow at once! Thanks so much. : )
