"Octoplume", noun: The plume of hot exhaust gases exiting rocket engines on the new Falcon 9 v1.1 being flown by SpaceX.

Because SpaceX's own engines, the Merlin 1D, burn such a "dirty" combination of liquid oxygen (LOX) and highly refined kerosene (RP-1), the plume from the engines was seen much much longer than the Atlas V or Delta IV's we are used to seeing. This made tracking her progress downrange much easier.
