Summary of Winds of Freedom by LauriJ

ACT I:

It is World War 2. London is being bombed by Nazis. Charlie gets send away to Greece to his Uncle in order to live as far away from the war as possible. Upon arrival, Charlie discovers that his uncle manages a zoo in his spare time, filled with many wonderful animals from around the world. Charlie laments how his relatives are most likely dead by now and that the only company he finds are the animals in his uncle's zoo. The next day, Charlie once again visits zoo and discovers someone else waiting for him. A girl so beautiful that all others would look ugly by comparison. The girl introduces herself as Charlotte and mentions being able to understand animals. Charlotte then leaves the zoo, leaving a baffled Charlie all by himself.

ACT 2:

The next morning, Charlie ponders over the encounter with Charlotte the day before. He then hears something strange coming from his uncle's mansion. Taking a peek inside, he horrifically discovers him to be a murdered, with a note stating that Charlie would be next. Charlotte then suddenly appears and explains that the Nazis have found Charlies whereabouts and that he needs to leave fast. But just as they were about to do so, they find the mansion surround from all sides. A Nazi general demands that the two come with them or face the consequences. Facing no other choice, the duo willingly allows themselves to be incarcerated.

ACT 3:

Days pass with the duo being forced to work in a concentration camp. Charlie complains that they did nothing to deserve being send there. After being allowed to go to a break, Charlotte decides to tell Charlie his story. Her house burned down when she was very little and Charlies uncle managed to find her wandering the streets and offered her a place to stay at his home. As the night falls, the duo begin planning their escape. The next morning as Charlotte was picked to entertain the guards for the day, Charlie begins the preparations for the escape. Scouting the perimeter wall, Charlie a tiny tunnel, just small enough for a human being to slip through. That evening, Charlie and Charlotte plans to escaoe together. Figuring out the guard's patterns, the duo manages to escape the camp through the tunnel and to freedom.
