Alurians have a varying ability to detect Source, a useful type of energy that permeates everything within their solar system. An individual's sensitivity diminishes over distance, and is measured based on how far away one can reliably detect a specific magnitude of change in the Source Field. An average Alurian has a detection rating of 19 meters for a standard 2-person Seeker Ship's warmup sequence. The record-holder had a rating of 476.

At the age of 5, Naerina was diagnosed with a rating of 224 - More sensitive than an estimated 96% of the population. Living in a city with such an ability could be compared to a Car Door Slamming Party following you around at all times...A Car Door Slamming Party in a universe where ear plugs aren't a thing.

"Stressful" can't even begin to describe her childhood, so she moved out of the city of Arxynoth as soon as she was able to work. But despite the nuisance of constant "noise," unusually high Source sensitivity does come with some perks. In Naerina's case, she found that being able to tell exactly what's gone wrong inside a Seeker before even laying a finger on it made her remarkably employable.
