Coyo Karaoke - "The End of the Innocence"

Coyo Karaoke - "The End of the Innocence"

Lanovran

Time to go back to the '80s with one of my favorite Don Henley songs. Henley's vocals, as always, are a challenging act to follow for me, given that his natural singing voice tends towards a higher register than my own. I really like his singing, though, so I've had a lot of practice at stretching my own range a bit to keep up.

This song is Don Henley's anthem to the loss of values and humanity in the face of the burgeoning consumerism, nihilism, and militarism of Reagan's 1980s, "The End of the Innocence" (honestly, it's a theme that still feels relevant at times today). In other words, it's some feel-good late '80s soft synth-pop. :P In addition to performing the vocals, I also played Wayne Shorter's original saxophone solo on my Eb Hall crystal flute.

Original song by Don Henley and Bruce Hornsby. This version performed by Don Henley, ©1989 Geffen Records.
