Katzeger the god of the lost

one of my characters katzerger,he may look evil but since he is a god he doesn’t follow such concepts, he is the guide of the lost be it travelers, people who are lost in life or lost souls. He is also the patron of storytellers, he usually likes to give cryptic hints to those he guides mostly in story form. And is also known to lie to people to try to guide them to do what he wants.

“During my research I never stumbled upon such a cryptic mythological character as Katzeger, his appearance changes drastically depending on the artist. This is not unusual for the gods of this culture, but so far Katzeger is the one that changes the most. In most of the few written records I could find about mythology tales, Katzeger is usually the one who makes contact with humans. He can either bring fortune or ruin for those he appears for. He was both worshiped and feared such duality is intriguing since he is said to guide those to what they wish for, maybe a metaphor for being careful of what you wish for. Although he appears very differently in all works I have encountered, some characteristics are always the same, he is always depicted as a cat or having a feline form, with blue eyes and a tail with five bells on it. I still haven’t discovered the true significance of bells, maybe they are a way to represent 5 different kinds of wishes. Can also be some kind of allusion to travelers that might have used bells as a way to call for help in forests, ringing bells to alert anyone close to help them, but I haven’t found any evidence to backup this theory. Since he is the patron of storytellers maybe they could symbolize a very early form of the seven basic plots in storytelling with only five being recognized. There is still a lot I don’t understand about Katzeger, and that I may never know since not enough sources survived the ages. Like his connection to a more recent goddess in this culture called Kreimhen, that is still a mystery for me.”— Research notes on unidentified culture, by Ian Shepherd.
