Zahardi is a natual sorcerer. He was trained as a wizard until some disatrous event expelled him from his magical University.
Then on his exile, he was captured and sold as a slave. Hopefully, his master treat him well and sees him more like a worker.

The heh part is the metal collar he has around his neck.
