Everyone knows about the folklore of salamanders being able to withstand fire, but these little newts actually have a belly full of it. When threatened they can spit little sparks of fire if antagonized enough, but often they'll puff out small clouds of smoke and ash giving them there ash lung name. Juveniles are only able to spit out smoke and ash and much reach adult hood before they can hope to spit out a full fire spark, But the younger they are the more poisonous they are so don't think you can just scoop up a bunch of babies the adults are actually much safer to handle cause a burn or two is a lot better then a week of intense flu like symptoms.
These newts are also known to eat pebbles to help them swim better, the "fire" or gases in there stomach that help them create the smoke and ash or in adulthood sparks can sometimes cause it to be difficult to dive down and can cause them to stay afloat so they'll actually swallow rocks so they can dive deeper. These rocks are then spit back up and if ate by an adult and held in the stomach long enough will actually cause the rock to marble in color from a chemical reaction. These are often sold at markets there good for different charms, potion making, and just rock collecting to.
