Filigree apogee pedigree perigee! (Weasyl remix)

KeweyTanuki

I wanted to see if I could get one of my little videos done in one night. For the extra challenge, I shot it as a shaky handheld video instead of using a tripod and used a character with fur. This Weasyl remix introduces some motion blur and focal blur for extra photorealism, and the Flash version is at least twice the resolution of the version I posted to Twitter/FA. :)

The amazing Judy Hopps model I used in this animation is by splatypi and is free to download and use for Blender on Blendswap: http://www.blendswap.com/blends/view/83856

Made in Blender and Krita all running at once with multiple instances so I can de-shake handheld footage, matte out my jeans leg, animate bunnies, draw effects animation, test composite setups, re-shake the de-shaken footage, render to image sequence AT THE SAME TIME. Really makes things quicker when you don't have to wait!

very neat animation, would it bother you if I also said that you have a nice foot?

    • Link

Well any foot that can do THAT is a pretty nice foot.

    The blur really sells it!

Yeah amazing how a little photorealism just kicks things up a notch... while doubling the rendering time... :)

Holy dang this is really amazing! I especially love the little magical effects, they're very classically cartoony.

Thanks so much! I love them old hand-drawn sparkly effects too, they're great fun :)

Wowww man! This is beautifully executed! :)

      EEEEEEE! IT'S A GREENFACE! Thank you! :D

So do you overlay the animation, or motion track the model to your body and tweak it from there?

    • Link

Both! The foot was motion-matched to my foot frame by frame (by hand - it's quicker) then composited in over the live-action plate. The hand I just put in there afterwards because it felt right.

do you have any people wanting to volunteer an models for animation?

        • Link

No doubt! I'm having to disappoint all of them for the time being for a couple of reasons:

          • There's invisible stuff going on behind the scenes of this shot which require on-set knowledge of directing, cinematography, shot design and visual effects supervision. I don't feel like teaching someone all that stuff from scratch.
          • I only really do these when I feel like it. I wouldn't want to keep anyone waiting for inspiration to strike, especially if they've paid me to do it for them!
