Kr-48 Overlord dropship [OLD]

ORIGINS
The Kr-48 Overlord is a combat utility transatmospheric starcraft designed and manufactured by the Kron design bureau based on the factory world of Hellion V. It is primarily used by the Combined Armed Forces of the Strax Ascendancy (CAFSA.)

Often called the workhorse of the Ascendancy, the Overlord has been in service for decades since its introduction in 2004. Its trial runs in the various regions of Strax and Hellion V proved the craft could fly well in thin or thick atmospheres or in extreme temperatures with minimal maintenance, making it extremely popular with both the Ascendancy and other factions around the Arm.

When the CAFSA was founded in 2001, it was quickly discovered that the proposed doctrine for their future operations required the need of an armored transport aircraft that was capable of carrying multiple, fully loaded, squads of infantry directly into combat. Grand General Galkarot personally met with the appointed head of the newly established Kron design bureau to talk with him and his head design team about making such a craft in November of that year. Plans for what would be called the Overlord Project would be drafted in December.

The requirements for the program were simple. First, being able to carry at least two squads of infantry plus any possible attached personnel (stated as Combat Engineers and the like). And secondly being trans-atmospheric, which Kron was already working on with its fighter program. The end result of the program was the T-47, which would soon after be adopted by the CAFSA as the Kr-48.

CREW
The Kr-48 is controlled by a pilot and co-pilot. The cockpit is accessed by way of a small stairwell at the front of the troop bay. The cockpit has a side-by-side layout, the co-pilot sitting to the right of the pilot with instrumentation and control layout being that of a dual control stick, controlling both vertical and horizontal flight.

The other two crew members of the Overlord are two door gunners in the troop bay. Utilizing an articulated, gyro-stabilized arm mount to carry the V-52 heavy machine gun, the door gunner is able to quickly swivel the gun from its stowed position into a firing position in the opening the Overlord's side doors make when open.

DESIGN
The internal structure of the Overlord is composed of diffusion-bonded metal composites. Chrome-doped zirconium oxide-reinforced fibers in titanium aluminide, make up the bonded metal layer, giving exceptional lightness, strength and oxidation resistance. While the outer hull of the craft is made of a tri-layer system, a inner carbon composite layer bonded to a middle layer of single-crystal carbon (able to withstand the heating of atmospheric re-entry), with a ceramic outer layer provides thermal and oxidation resistance during high-altitude, high-speed flight. All underneath a layer of treated stalkrov armor plating.

Though not designed to go against ground or space defenses, the Overlord has proven to be exceptionally rugged, capable of withstanding considerable punishment while still remaining airborne. The base Stalkrov armor layers have sufficient protection against light ground fire and missile fragmentation, and its treatment provides limited ablative properties against pulsed lasers.

Housed within the main fuselage adjacent to the troop bay are the craft's main fuel tanks. To the rear in each tail pod is additional fuel tanking and oxidant tanks for extra-atmospheric flight. At the tip of each tail is a rear and ground facing sensor suite which acts in tandem with the craft's various sensors and scanners housed in the nose.

The Overlord troop bay has seating for the transport of twenty four troops. Various cargo can also be stowed in between the seats lining the sides, such as stretchers or containers. And, like the cockpit, the bay is also fully sealed and pressurized to allow trans-atmospheric operations. The bay is generally also run at a slight positive pressure to prevent any NBC agents from leaking into the craft.

PROPULSION
To meet the requirement for the craft to operate in multiple combat environments from VTOL to transatmospheric flight, The Overlord is equipped with two LunaTech L-302 dual-liftjet SABRE (Synergetic Air Breathing Rocket Engine) drives, two housed in each nacelle at the tips of the craft's wings. Using metastable metallic hydrogen along with liquisol as its primary fuel, these engines are incredibly efficient in both void and atmospheric flight.

For VTOL operation, engine exhaust is ducted through the engine nacelle's bottom nozzles, while for horizontal operation exhaust the thrust generated by the turbines is transferred inside the nacelle and sent through the it's rear nozzles. The redundancy offered by the craft's engine layout  serves to increase safety, as the Overlord is capable of flying and hovering on only one engine, provided its thrust is diverted, whilst still half-loaded.

These turbines, along with various small reaction control thrusters located in specific points around the fuselage of the craft, provide the Overlord with surprising maneuverability for its size in void flight. In the atmosphere, these RCS thrusters are used to help stabilize the notably rear-heavy craft during VTOL operation.

For exiting atmosphere, the L-302 is fitted with a L-100 transatmospheric thruster housed separately from the main engine. When used, this thruster provides the force needed for the transport to break through a planet's atmosphere and into the void during a vertical flight maneuver at full engine power. This thruster carries enough fuel and oxidizer for use two times before it must be replenished.

Shes done. She's finally done after literal years of piecing things together, going through several entirely different designs etc :o
I went back to my original roots a bit with this, going back to using pixel work and such... I don't think it looks that bad really o:

I really heavily debate posting my vehicle stuff here, I don't know why. I have a lot of Ascendancy-verse stuff to show.
