Magical Girl Kate by KenaDragon

Magical Girl Kate

Oh my god it's finally finished!!! It took a lot of willpower not to post little updates of this. This is my magical girl oc. She has an ultimate form which I will draw later. I began with a 005 micron pen for all the linework and for the majority of the image I used prismacolor markers. I went over some areas with watercolor pencils and verithin colored pencils as well. For highlights I used white ink.

As for the content, it started with only the figure then I placed her on pillows and cobbled together the background. I say it every time but I learned a lot while working on this. I consider it a failure in regards to the perspective and scale and next time I know I will need to build up a solid foundation for the figure. I'll make sure to have someone pose for me just to get everything right, especially if I'm going to spend as long as I did on this.

I always want to add more details and push my images a little further, and I will refer back to this picture quite a bit I expect. Now that I'm finished with it I can see what to do differently. I'm pleased with the effect of the rug in particular and the pillows turned out pretty well I think. Traditional is challenging in a lot of ways, but then again there's an ease in working with physical pigments and paper that I can't deny.
