meg (posca pens)

keirajo

You know me, I like to try new things. So I bought a set of the pens that people are using now--Posca. I got a Japanese set, it's got 21 colors in it, but still not enough variance of colors to get something "true to color". lol They're fun to use, but can be a little sloppy, because they are PAINT pens--imagine using acrylic paints in a pen form and that's what these are. You can't blend [much, purposefully] with them, but they're very nice to try and do flat/celshading styles with. As you can see, not enough variation of browns in my set for this picture of Meg..........the "dark brown" is really dark and the standard brown is a bit light. I used pale orange for the 3rd brown in a Daschbun's color scheme (you know that's not shading in the official art, it's different toasted crusts in baking, since it's a bread-Pokemon, right?).

You also should use a really good-quality paper when you use Poscas. Since they are a bit liquid, they will seep into some papers--I mean, imagine using your acrylic paints on certain different types of paper. The thinner the paper is, the more likely your paints are gonna be ugly when applied to it. laughs For this particular paper I'm using Yupo heavystock--Yupo papers are designed for alcohol ink works and washes. Alcohol inks are very.......intense inks, to put it simply. Yupo paper (or similar types of alcohol ink papers) are very smooth and kind of slippery--regular ink pens take a million years to dry upon it and many kinds of markers look watery/washy. However, the smoothness and thin-looking thickness of the paper holds up well and makes Posca pens look very smooth upon it.

Ha-ha, maybe I should recategorize this into my "helpful hints" folder at some point...........! XD

Pokemon belongs to GameFreak, OC belongs to me. :)

Again, I love how bold this is and how it pops out! I'll have to try these some time.

      Yay! Thanks! :D

Make sure you use a good, thick paper or some mini-canvases! :)

ooh! really nice :D I like how colourful this is! ^-^
dachsbuns are cool :3 I was playing pokemon violet and my fidough recently evolved into one too! ^w^

      Thanks! :D

These pens are nice, if a bit of a learning curve to learn to use. :)

This is one of my favorite Pokémon of the new generation. It’s got a great ability—which negates fire attacks and prevents it from being burned. :D

no prob! ^w^ it's definitely worth it in the end when something you learnt has come in handy :D

yeah dachsbun's ability is great! X3 I also love the cuteness it still has when it evolves, plus the floof here and there is adorable too X3 I'm sure kid me would of loved to visit future me to see the new pokemon because I was a huuuge dog lover when I was little ^w^ I still love dogs today (and foxes!) but I think past me was an even bigger fan than future me, heh X3

I noticed there's been alot of cute dog characters lately :o especially Bluey and Paw Patrol, it makes me wish past me had those shows as a kid cos watching my favourite shows brought me alot of comfort since I had a rough childhood... hm well, at least I still liked Spot, Kipper, Clifford, Baxter (from Pablo The Fox), and Gromit as a kid :3 I think Wallace and Gromit is a favourite I still like today ^w^ I also got to see Pablo The Little Red Fox again, love that show ^-^ brings back good memories ^w^

I’ll be honest, I was surprised at how many dog Pokémon were in this generation—there’s normally more cats. But they also had more variety of the dog designs, too.

“Bluey” is really popular in the U.S., too! :D

now that you mention it, you're right :o three was it? plus lots others from older generations :3 there are lots of dogs and canines! heh X3 I have eevee and midday lycanroc aswell :D I'm sure alotta people would be aiming to get a riolu or lucario lol, that one's popular XD

I hear that show originated in australia, it's also on the cbeebies channel too! I need to see that show sometime :3

We used to maybe only get 1 dog per generation and sometimes 2 cats. Maybe they're just catching up on the number of dogs to cats in the game. There STILL has never been a dog Starter Pokemon (and there have been 2 cats), except the original one I created in my fan-fiction! XD

Yep, "Bluey" is from Australia. :)

now that you mentioned it, when they first revealed sprigatito i almost mistakened it for a small fluffy dog like lillipup, but when i saw the name I was like "..okay it's a cat •ω•;" I'm sort of a spanish speaker aswell so i knew gatito means kitten, and the gato in floragato means cat (though gata and gatita are female cats)

before the evolutions were revealed, I took a lucky guess of what sprigatito's evolution might be like. I was guessing that maybe it would be an iberian lynx because that's a wildcat in spain and funnily enough, i was sorta right! :o meowscarada is very lynx like with the cheek floof and the bobtail, it's also very much like a domestic bobtail kitty aswell cos of the cute face it has

                • Link

Looks like you guessed well on that evolution! :D

                    hehe thanks X3

I looooove posca pens! They are so interesting. You did a great job on this piece :3

      Thanks! :D

I kinda wish for thinner tipped ones (they probably do have them out there in the world somewhere—since I have metallic pens with narrower bullet tips), but this set was the way it was! XD Paper definitely does make a difference, too……a more toothed paper (like sketchbook or watercolor) will soak it up more and give it a flatter and “rougher” look. (I tried small doodles on other papers!) The Yupo paper I used here allowed it to be smooth and bold. :)

They dooo! But I only see them come it really tiny packs or huge $100+ ones. They are on my list to get as well since I have medium tipped ones. Yeah, paper deeefinitely makes a difference. Amazingly, I can use these in one of my sketchbooks and while it will sometimes warp the paper a little bit, it works really well for doodles and concepting and it comes out smooth.

I figured they had to—since metallic pens work on the same pump principle as Poscas. My rose gold and mirror chrome metallic pens are both smaller tips than the Poscas I got. :)

I did a keychain illustration for a friend’s gift on Bee Paper (mixed media). It roughed the paper a little, but still looked pretty good. But I could tell it was seeping in a bit more than on the Yupo paper…..so don’t wanna use it on too much of an absorbing paper or it’ll drink up the whole dang pen! XD

Yeah X'D I have that issue with some marker papers. They just soak up the ink and I'm like "NO NOT THE PRECIOUS!" So pricey to replace.

            • Link

              For sure! XD

I notice that with my Sakura Glaze gel pens, too—they make a nice glass effect on smooth papers, but kind of soak in on toothed/mixed media papers and just look sticky/tacky (not bad “tacky”, the textured kind! XD).

              • Link

I get that too with a lot of my gel pens also X'D

                  Darn you, papers! XD
