Novablaze (marker paper)

One thing I like to do about traditional artwork is to "try new things", but over the years, I have never--EVER--been a fan of the so-called "marker paper". Paper designed for marker use. SUPPOSEDLY. I honestly think marker paper is the worst kind of paper for markers and the new one I tried out (Hobby Lobby's house brand, "Master's Touch") is just another good example of marker paper at it's most "blah". This one was worse than ones I've tried in the past, as trying to "color over" a space multiple times (such as in shading or blending) actually began to shred/fray the paper. @_@ This paper really DID NOT like you going over a space more than one time--if the intention is making your area darker, then it's perfect, but if you're coloring in an empty space, if you don't have the strokes lined up well........you can see stroke and coloring lines. Blending was more like a wash, as it began shredding the paper. :/

In my world, I guess marker paper only serves a good purpose for pen-and-ink/black-and-white (or colored pen) artwork. It's got a density of being really thin, almost see through--you could nearly use it as a tracing paper to put works from one source to another if you don't have a lightbox. Personally, if you plan to be a traditional artist using markers--I would recommend using a higher-quality and thicker paper like heavy cardstock or Bristol.

Enough of my review, onto the pic--a dynamic pose of my original Transformers character, Novablaze, using my pose figures (as I gave an example a little while back). In my fan-fiction--Gen 1/Season 3 oriented--Nova is the firstborn offspring of Galvatron and Rodimus Prime. I think his Galvatron qualities are evident in his design, but although he has a warrior's Spark, he is kind like Rodimus is. Many fan-fic writers have done the sparkling time many times over, but many that I ever read usually ended the story with the "they have a baby, happily ever after". I may be one of the few fan-fic writers who generated the sparklings in the story and USED them throughout ongoing works, instead of the "baby being born--THE END". Novablaze has grown up--in my next story-arc, he will be about 20 years old (he'll have one more growth spurt that will finalize into his adult design, which you may remember from his old ref sheet).........he's going to have relationships of his own and find out he'll be the core of a gestalt (Combiner, using modern technology), as well as a Triple-Changer. While his beast mode is only being hinted at in this interim design, it's meant to foreshadow his beast mode. I still haven't publically revealed his beast mode, but that'll be sometime in the next year. :)

Transformers belongs to Hasbro. OC is my own creation.

    Love the pose here!

It's hard to find good marker paper, but the marker sketchbook I have comes with this plastic (or is it some kind of rubber??) sheet thing that you put behind the paper you're working on so it doesn't bleed onto the next one--I'll have to email the link to it :)

      Thanks! :D

This paper was a bit disappointing that it began kind of shredding if you went over an area more than once—so blending was not going to happen with this paper. @_@
