watercolor epic fail by keirajo

watercolor epic fail

I thought parts were dry when I painted on them--they weren't.

I used a masking fluid, it tore up the paper badly.

I really don't think I'm cut out for painting anymore......... sigh

That stuff said--like the part on the back/plates I did use the purple over the pink when it was slightly wet, because I was trying to do the fancy striping a lot of dinosaurs now have in illustrations. The tail, though--only the spikes were supposed to be purple........and I really thought it was dry (IT LOOKED LIKE IT WAS!!!) before I added the purple. It clearly wasn't, at all........it may have been because the masking fluid ripped the paper up pretty bad. sigh

Daisy is my OC. Horrible painting by me, as well. XD

      Awwww….thanks! :D

It’s a tool often used in watercolor painting. It’s also known as masking gum or even by the common name of it, which is liquid rubber latex. It’s generally not supposed to be permanent if you remove it within 24 hours, it’s supposed to rub off easily. I’m not sure if I got a bad bottle or the paper just didn’t want to deal with it…… :/

You can use it to cover places on your painting (like fine areas) if you plan to do large background portions—and not worry about overpainting lines. Or to create pure white areas at the end of painting. It works like a liquid and you can use a brush to paint it over an area before painting on it with watercolors—it resists paint.

I had an issue with the liquid latex where the paper I used just didn't handle the latex and when I when to peel it off, it ripped and took the top layer of paper with it.

Yeah--that kinda happened to me with this. It ripped off a huge chunk of paper. I still don't know if it's just a bad batch or if my paper wasn't great (or humidity could be a factor here in the summer). Poor paper. :(
