rosemary and kaze sketch by keirajo

rosemary and kaze sketch

keirajo

Another sketch probably unlikely to be inked and finished. I drew Rosemary and Kaze in yukata, because it's about that time when couples go to look at the cherry blossoms or an upcoming holiday or something. :)

Technically, yukata don't function properly for characters with tails, so we'll just talk this up to fantasy costuming. (I bought a "how to draw" book last year at SakuraCon that was about yukata and kimono and it's super-detailed on how people put them on and everything that goes into making them look like they're worn properly. Very complicated and amazingly helpful at learning to draw them!)

Pokemon belongs to Nintendo/GameFreak, OCs belong to me. :)

I like this, it's cute, and the body language is good. I think in animation sometimes you just handwave the disappearance of a tail under some types of clothes, lol.

      Thanks so much! :D

Yeah, I attended a panel at FurCon years back that was “furries and clothing” themed, so it made me far more aware of trying to do tails-and-clothing realistically—but you just can’t do it with a yukata or kimono. So, you do have to fall back on the “disbelief” angle for an outfit like this! chuckle

Oh that sounds like a neat panel! I like the way clothes fall and learning about different fabrics, because I sew too, but it is really fun to draw clothes. I suppose if you really wanted to design something that was appropriate in the world of the characters, perhaps they would have overlapped panels like a slit in the back on a trench coat? It just wouldn't be as traditionally accurate to Japanese clothing. That or if you wanted it to show (so you could use it for expression) just draw it on top and don't think too hard about how that works. XD

Yeah! It was easily one of my favorite panels of any fandom convention I’ve been to! Like you can adjust the looks of some clothing (jeans or thick fabric pants) to suit a tail—unless you have low-hanging pants. Easiest thing to do is cut a hole, but to be realistic—you need to show that hole has been reinforced to hold the weight of a tail without tearing fabric. I loved that panel and it really made me view clothing furries in a different way! :)
