zone series #5: hang castle by keirajo

zone series #5: hang castle

keirajo

Still chipping away at this series..........with my attempt to try more backgrounds.

Keeping with the ghost-theme here..............Hang Castle from "Sonic Heroes". Who doesn't like a level where you're upsidedown part of the time, right? XD The moment I decided on Hang Castle from that game for this series of drawings...............I knew Kei would be upsidedown in it. chuckle

The older Zones that I know I want to do are harder to find solid reference for.............and requiring me to take pictures of in-game play..............so it may be awhile until the next Zone Series pic. @_@ I've found it's been a long time since I've played the classic games, I am currently stuck in the Oil Ocean Zone of "Sonic 2" while I try to make it to the Mystic Caverns (what I want to draw..............). I used to be so good at these games!!!! XD

Zone and Echidna design from Sega, Keira-Jo is my own OC.

Lost my enthusiasm for Sonic personally, but I do remember playing Sonic 2 ritually 19 years ago.

"Sonic 2" was my first "Sonic" game, back after I bought a Sega Genesis. I've tried to play many of the new ones, but after "Sonic Adventure 2" on the Dreamcast.............they started making the games beyond difficult and they were so full of glitches that it was frustrating. I liked playing the handheld versions of "Sonic Colors" and "Sonic Generations" over the console versions.........because they felt closest to the classic side-scrolling gameplay, but mostly all the console games I rather dislike after the Dreamcast games. "Sonic Heroes" was awkward, using 3 characters at one time............and "Sonic the Hedgehog" (2006) was beyond hard and glitch-heavy with strange gimmick-y gameplay. I'm not sure the "Sonic" franchise is really a good fit for "3-D gameplay"..........I think it's more fun with side-scrolling gameplay. :)

I appreciate the attention to detail in making sure her clothes are affected by gravity, not just "oh, I drew her and turned the paper upside down!"

I tried hard to remember everything and then I noticed the zipper pull and did an immediate headdesk moment. I'm just gonna say it's one of those zippers that locks down when its in place (those are rare anymore but what they hey, right??? XD). Thanks............I tried pretty hard to do that. I had to draw it "rightside up", but I was able to ink it upside down. :)

Oh, you're right! >_<; I didn't even notice, so your rationale is completely plausible.

        • Link

You can rationale anything if you try hard enough! :)

Ah, nostalgia! I played Sonic Heros so much when I was younger! I never did finish it completely, but it was still fun.
Is this your favorite zone? My favorite was Rail Canyon.

I liked the creepiness level of this Zone.....and the music for it. I think my favorite Zone from "Sonic Heroes" is probably Bingo Highway though--way too much fun in that level! :)

Rail Canyon had great scenic detail...........it's a really well-modeled Zone! :D

I never got all the Chaos Emeralds, so I never saw the "true ending".......but I did finish it with all the Teams, at least. Those last levels were ridiculously hard! @_@

Yeah, those last couple levels were indeed hard; I don't think I ever finished them with all teams...

I think the team I had the easiest time with was Team Dark--Rouge's flying ability saved my team many times. Charmy and Tails didn't seem as good a "flight" character as Rouge was. "Heroes" was probably the last of the platform games I was able to finish. Never finished 2006's "Sonic the Hedgehog", or "Sonic Unleashed" or even the platform versions of "Generations" and "Colors" (though I finished and beat the handheld versions of the games)........I never even played "Lost World". There's a new game coming out that looks too much like all the modern games............and there's also the classic game tribute "Sonic Mania", which I think I will try to play since Knuckles is in it and he's my fave character. :)

I liked Sonic Heroes, but never finished it. I should attempt to. I think Sonic 3 had a level with ocassional reversed gravity, didn't it?

    • Link

Yep.............Eggman's space-base level in "Sonic 3"/"Sonic 3 & Knuckles" had switching gravity in places. :)

"Heroes" is okay, but kinda bland as far as the platform games go. I think the one character problem I had with it was making Vector dumb-as-a-brick, though! XD

She looks less than thrilled here xD

    • Link

I don't know how she plans to trigger that switch with those ghosts there! XD

      • Link

She can scare them away with her glare xD
