Many vampires are depicted as egocentric broody types or carpe diem (well, carpe noctem, I guess) hedonists who don't think ahead. And the vampires who go "kill all humans" need to get thrown off a bridge because what do they plan on eating?!

...but some vampires think ahead.

Though immortals who can't be killed probably have the most incentive to make sure they have a comfortable place to live. At least vampires can go throw themselves onto something deadly if worst comes to worst.
