Also known as the Indian Watchtower, this building was designed by the architect, Mary Colter, who took months of research and knowledge about the native americans that live in the area, as a tribute to the cultures that surrounded the canyon. It took three years to construct, the basic frame of the tower being steel and concrete, but the rest of the architecture using only the old ways of masonry: no hammers, no chisels, only harder rock. As quoted, "Colter and her masons carefully selected stones, insisting "any tool mark [would be] a conspicuous scar on the face of our walls." "
Reaching a height of 70ft, this beautiful tower sits on the edge of the rim overlooking the eastern side of the Grand Canyon.
