Sometimes it's hard to make connections with other people, and companionship and the comfort that it can bring isn't always easy to obtain. No one knows that better than Richard, a cannibalistic serial killer with a taste for the more abhorrent members of society and has recently lost his mentor and closest thing to family or friend he'd had left. Clarice, a socially awkward but friendly Ghoul woman with a need for rotten organic matter, is fairly familiar with that difficulty as well. Neither of them have an easy time making friends for various reasons - perhaps that's why they settled into a kind of comfortable camaraderie.
In this case, Richard was feeling somewhat isolated and lonesome at his home. Not an unusual occurrence - but not one he's had a solution to before meeting Clarice. So he's stopped in while she was getting comfy for the evening, which led to her offering him her couch for the night - and a little bit of story time as well when he gets curious about what she's reading.
This lovely, sweet sketch is by LadyHobbiton. I really think it's just wonderful, since it shows Richard in a relatively relaxed, not homicidal-mode, and Clarice just looks adorable in her usual nighttime gear. ;3 LOOK AT THE TINY HEARTS ON HER SOCKS! They're so tiny!
