prickpocket and I were talkin bout golems today

that green stuff on them is kind of like moss/lichen that grows all over them naturally and is part of them, if you get it all off with a scrub brush or something they're all black underneath and go into a mating frenzy (in that state I imagine them moving like beserk evas from nge)

genitals will appear when in a mating frenzy, all golems have something like a penis and vagina unless "pregnant", in which case they only have a penis. the penises don't really ejaculate, they just insert the command to grow a new golem in another golem. Once "pregnant" a golem's stomach will swell until it gets big enough, and then deep lines will develop and it will split off from the main golem. it'll be a little stiff and blocky at first but eventually it will develop and grow into an adult golem. all golems are born with a blank gold face plate which the "mother" will carve for them

and then most humans in this world worship golems as mysterious benign beings, high priests will wear gold face masks if the town can afford it, if it's poorer it will be the most precious metal they could afford, like copper or something. The second highest priests will wear half face masks, just over their eyes, and attendants will just wear thick circlets

when a golem dies their bodies decompose pretty quickly, but the faceplates are basically indestructable. Golems have this ceremony where they sink any faceplates they find in a certain lake as a way to honor them

(buying selling or owning a golem faceplate is considered a huge taboo crime too)

(also all the carving on them is made of a single line)
