Xyla by JonKin

Xyla

Xyla’s mother was the daughter of an English game hunter whom accompanied her family into the Congo when she was a young girl. One night, a group of natives killed off Xyla’s grandparents and capture Xyla’s mom to be sold into child slavery. The group of slavers tend decided to attempt to invade an Amazonian village. The slavers were slaughtered, and Xyla’s mother was rescued. The council which governed over the entire village of Aegea was at odds with what to do with the little girl. Some wanted to get rid of the child, fearing that the fact that keeping a white girl around was a bad omen for the village and will led to their destruction. Some of the others thought that if they had a hand in her rearing, then maybe the girl would become a boon to the Amazons. The child, named Azuri, was raised to be a fierce warrior. Azuri grew up competing with the racism from her fellow Amazons, as well as being of short stature compared to the rest of the statuesque women.

When Azuri became of age, she participated in her first Fertility Raid, which is held every two years, on neighboring villages. The mission was to invade a village completely ransacking it, and kidnapping some of the weaker of the men, take then back to the Aegea, rape them until the Amazons get pregnant, then kill them. If the Amazon had a girl, then the child was raised to be a citizen of Aegea. If the baby turned out to be a boy however, then the baby was taken to a mountain to die. The first time Azuri got pregnant, she had a boy. Azuri did not want to get rid of her son but was pressured into doing so by the Aegean council. Azuri regretted the act and felt angry at the council and herself because of it. As a result, Azuri started to question the authority and wisdom of the Aegean council. Once, she even openly argued with a high-ranking member of the council on an ethical matter. Although Azuri was proven to be in the right, the way she went about exposing the misdeed raised the ire of the entire council, even those that originally supported her.

The next year, after the bi-annual Fertility Raids, Azuri became pregnant. She prayed for a girl; Azuri did not want to suffer the pain of giving up another child. Her prayer was answered with the birth of a girl, which she named Xyla. Determined to give Xyla a better life than she had, Azuri put her daughter though rigorous training to become the best solider that Aegea has ever seen. When Xyla was six, Azuri went off to the raids, never to return. Xyla was told that her mother was murdered by cowardly men whom wanted to overrun and destroy Aegea and the Aegean way of life. However, it wasn't at the hands of man that Azuri met her end. Fueled with rage, Xyla dedicated her life to training her mind & body to be the absolute pinnacle of an Amazon warrior. Rising quickly in rank within the Amazonian army due to her success on the battlefield, Xyla was made commander of her own squad of commandos. Her success bred jealously and resentment among some under her command due to Xyla not being a “pure” Amazon and her young age. This jealously with cost the entire nation of Aegea dearly...
