Octransfur Day 5: Machine Maxed [Cyborg Dragon TF] by Joat

Maximilian calmly manipulated the various dials and buttons of his control panel with his robotic arms, outwardly emotionless but internally beaming. There aren’t many who would volunteer for such an experiment as this, especially one run by an admitted mad scientist such as him. It is said that one would have to be just as mad themselves, but to Max it was the obvious choice. Why would one settle for being simply human when one could be so much more, after all? And this particular volunteer wanted to take things further than any had in the past, going beyond simply augmenting or replacing a limb or two, and Max was more than happy to oblige.

The first step was an injection of nanomachines, delivered by a robotic arm. Some of the nanomachines would assist in the process directly, while others went to the young woman’s brain, both to block out pain signals during what would otherwise be an incredibly painful process and to subtly reconfigure her brain to be able to properly interface with her new body parts. He internally chuckled, remembering that when Vladimir had first seen this step, he objected immediately, declaring “Hey, injecting people with needles full of science stuff is MY thing!”

It was at this point, at the last second, that some past volunteers started having second thoughts. But not this woman. She looked more excited than ever. Maximilian waited a small moment for the nanomachines to get into position, then proceeded with the next step. A big robotic arm lifted the woman up. “Remain still as you can, Lenn, particularly your legs and feet at the moment. “ Soon after that, many more robotic arms came into view, each with various attachments. Some of those arms were carrying various metal components, the two largest of which were moved into position and closed over her right foot. After that, the other arms got to work, properly fastening the various pieces to her human foot and to each-other. Under the surface, though Lenn wasn’t able to feel any of what was going on, Max knew that what was happening wasn’t a pretty sight. That’s why the process started with the two biggest pieces closing around her foot; that way, neither of them would have to see what was going on underneath.

The arms moved on to the other foot, then her legs, doing much the same to each. At the end of that process, from the legs down it looked like she was entirely robotic. Her feet looked more like blue draconic metal paws now, with large silver-colored claws at the end. Her legs were covered with a sleek blue metal, with silver highlights on either side. Her legs felt powerful, as if they could kick down a tree. Her skeletal structure wouldn’t yet be able to handle that sort of force, but Max would address that next.

Another needle came down and injected Lenn with a special metallic concoction that the nanomachines would use as raw materials to reinforce her skeletal structure. Then, next to be changed was her waist, including one particularly notable change: a large, powerful-looking tail. It too was colored blue, with many joints down its length to make the tail fully mobile. The tip of the tail had a nozzle, designed to spray water out of it so she could chea... er, “creatively win” at squirt gun fights.

Next was the torso, colored silver in front and blue on the rest of it. Looking down, Lenn found it a bit odd-looking that her robotic-looking was still moving rhythmically as she breathed, but that was understandable. After all, she wasn’t turning into a full machine but rather a cyborg, and those organic body parts still needed oxygen.

After that came the arms, followed by the hands. On the backs of her new hands - or perhaps it might be more appropriate to call them paws, as they now looked like a cross between hands and draconic forepaws - was a silver depiction of a game controller, reflecting her passion for video games. Like her hind paws, her forepaws also had silver-colored claws.

After that, the next thing to be encased in metal was her head. For this part of the process, she found herself getting dizzy and losing consciousness for a bit. When she came to, the finishing touches were being put on her blue metal draconic muzzle. She opened up her muzzle, feeling the silver-colored teeth within with a forepaw. She then reached back and felt her thick silver-colored horns, which curved back behind her head. She closed her lens-like eyes, willed her vision mode to change, and opened her eyes again, now seeing heat levels where she was looking at. Then she did it again, her vision changing to night vision, before returning back to normal vision.

The final touch was a pair of wings, which the robotic arms attached to her back. She gave a couple of test flaps, looking at the wings, she saw that it was mostly made of blue metal, with a lighter blue membrane. What material that part was made of, she wasn’t sure. But either way, the important part was that it was part of what would let her fly.

The big robotic arm set her down, at which point she started moving around, marvelling in the new sensations of her new body. She didn’t feel like she was wearing a robotic suit or covered in robotic attachments. She felt like the robotic parts WERE her body. When she rubbed her tail with a forepaw, she could feel the forepaw on her tail and vice versa. Apparently, she had quite sophisticated tactile sensors on her body now, which made this all the better.

The roof opened up, revealing the night sky above. Max gave her a nod. She looked up, then spread her wings. Holes opened up on the soles of her robotic hind paws, then she jumped up and out of those holes came powerful flames, propelling her upward. Her hind paws were able to function as built-in jet shoes, allowing her to take flight. Soon, she was high up in the sky, flying just below the clouds, gazing down at the city below.

She opened up her muzzle and let out a mighty roar. She still had her old voice, but she had built-in systems to be able to disguise it at will, to allow her to sound like a mighty dragon when she wanted to. And indeed, she certainly felt mighty. After such a transformation as she’d just gone to, she very much doubted it could be reversed, but she didn’t care. There was no way she’d ever want to reverse this. She felt powerful. She felt energetic.

She felt happy.

Octransfur Day 5: Machine Maxed [Cyborg Dragon TF]

The prompt for day 4 was Mechanical. Some might wonder if, in fact, becoming a cyborg would count as a TF. The answer is yes, because that's my opinion and my opinion is law. Also, this definitely leans more heavily on the "machine" side.

In any case, this story is actually related to a personal project I've been working on in private. When that project sees the light of day will depend heavily on my level of inspiration and my amount of free time, but whether it sees the light of day at all will actually depend on Cervelet because it's actually a fan project relating to his webcomic, Addictive Science (which I would highly recommend, by the way). The idea of my project is that it's a series of chat logs and other things between a group of mad scientists attending a mad science university, initially starting with two: "Machine Max" and "Vlad the Injector". That said, I avoided any references to the Addictive Science universe ("Addictiverse"?) or the aforementioned university in this story because, well, I don't have permission to use that stuff at this time.

Anyway, a cyborg TF like this is interesting to me because, although I typically prefer the idea of becoming a dragon outright, I like the idea of a cyborg transformation like this because, well... it's the sort of transformation that could potentially become a reality. Probably not within my lifetime, but hey, scientific progression has surprised us before.

As per usual, I shall compare what I did to what CrizBN did and, well... to say our ideas were different would be an understatement. The irony of it is that despite the fact that what I did was inspired by the Addictive Science webcomic, I'd say his work ended up being closer to the level of zaniness one would expect from said comic. In a way, a part of me wonders if my story may be a bit too grounded to be faithful to AS, that the science may not be mad enough. Then another part of me points out the squirt gun tail and that first part kinda just shuts up.
