Eepa by Joat

This is Eepa, a character of mine for Pathfinder, an alchemist and a member of a custom race known as the Faelight Carbuncle. They are tiny fuzzies with an incedibly valuable gem on their forehead. Given that it's basically part of their skull, there's no way to remove the gemstone nonlethally, so they often hide from humans and many other humanoid races, to avoid being hunted for their gem.

Speaking of their gem, they can actually use it form a magical bond with another being, allowing them to telepathically communicate with them, among a few other things. They usually form a bond with another carbuncle. Carbuncles cannot reproduce normally and must form a bond with another carbuncle and create children magically through that. As such, a carbuncle who forms a bond with a non-carbuncle (such as Eepa forming a bond with Arcus) cannot have children. Due to the lack of reproductive organs, gender among faelight carbuncles is purely a matter of identity, rather than anything biological. Faelight carbuncles who don't interact with other species usually don't even bother establishing one. Even then, they usually only do so because most other species' languages have gender-dependent pronouns and "it" is depersonalizing. Most go with female - with their high-pitched voices, most people tend to assume they're female anyway.

Do you mean faelight carbuncles, Final Fantasy carbuncles, or mythological carbuncles? I am guessing you don't mean vanilla Pathfinder carbuncles, which, um... aren't as appealing...
