English labrador.

Watercolor birthday present for my mother. I've drawn a lot of pictures of American chocolate labs for her, based on the late Dusty, but never one of Daisy, the English lab she has now. I'm not generally one to pinpoint breed characteristics, but English labs have blunter faces, stocky legs, and barrel chests - IRL Daisy almost looks like a pit mix, even though she's full-blooded English Lab.

Daisy's quite fond of the beach, with its acres of digging opportunities, cool waves, and tasty snacktoys (crabs, seagulls, fish, driftwood...).

Also this may be one of my scanner's last efforts - it is old and starting to fail, and that really shows in this. (Well...if one has the original to compare it to. It's much richer in color in real life, with none of those faded warbles or random dark bars that show up in the scan.) Perhaps my camera will do a better job on the framed piece...
