Something lived there, nobody knew what it really was, but it had the smell of wet soil, moss, and rotten wood. Some people believed it was a Witch who was murdered and returned from the abyss as something no longer human. Others thought maybe a dog that drowned in the bog outside town, or even a werewolf someone failed to kill entirely. All the folks in town knew the stories, and knew not to get lured in by the strange glow that moved between the trees when the fog was thick or the sun was down. Despite the warnings though, once in a while someone who went in at night, would come up missing..."
