Why the pouch on a male animal? (not a criticism, I'm just catlike curious)

The species maker decided that pouches aren't gender specific. It's up to the adopter to keep the pouch or not. I wanted to keep the pouch because not only is it fun to draw and it looks cute, but also beacuse Nico can use it to carry stuff around, which is useful since he collects herbs, roots, and other things because he makes medicine and remedies.
