Penanggalan by Iron Eater

Penanggalan

Iron Eater

Photoshop Elements, undated (presumably 2007)

Penanggalans (also known as krasue in Thailand, which is definitely easier to spell) are some of my favorite vampires ever, because it's hard to go wrong with a flying, entrails-draping head that hungers for the damp bits of the living. This particular piece of art has aged surprisingly well; there's plenty I'd change about it, but it's still striking and I still like what I did with the ultra-limited color scheme. I've always been a sucker for spot color used for emphasis.

The glyph in the upper right is the alchemical symbol for vinegar, since in some legends they have to soak their guts in vinegar to fit back in their bodies. Have I mentioned that Southeast Asian folklore is intensely radical? Because it is.

More of that scratchboard style I adopted from terribad terribad's old work.

Last old art for the day, I think. Thanks for being patient!

Awesome. I love these. (Well, the idea of these more like). And I like the style quite a bit too.
