Owlbear by Iron Eater

Owlbear

Iron Eater

Mechanical pencil, felt-tip pen, and rolling ball pen, 2014

It's a honeyhoot, complete with a pellet of its own! What a messy little creature an owlbear is. The ears are at different heights because this is how owl ears work, which is a detail so weird and icky I had to include it somehow. The texture itself took ages because I apparently can't be satisfied with simple things; this image takes up the majority of an 8.5x11 sheet of typing paper and I had to take frequent breaks to keep from ruining my hand again.

I didn't design this one after the weird Hong Kong plastic toy that inspired owlbears in the first place, partially because I didn't think of it before inking and partially because I really do like feathers and poofy tails and cockeyed ears. Also, this way it looks decidedly more like an owl than some sort of bird of prey thing.

Marked mature because that pellet's pretty gross.
