Scavenging for Parts - Ryou's Theme

Ikodo Moonstrife

I've been meaning to post this piece for quite some time!

This was my song contribution to the first album released by the Furry Music Anthrology, titled "A Song of you Sona".
Listen to the full album here!! --> https://furrymusicanthology.bandcamp.com/album/a-song-of-your-sona

I've also decided that for each song I write that is related to one of my characters or my novel, I will write or post a little excerpt from my story that will hopefully tie into the music in one way another. Hope you all enjoy!

Over the years after the Hybrid War, the space port had been largely abandoned and became more of a storage facility. As Ryou padded his way into the central hangar area, it became clear that it was much larger than it appeared from the outside. Several levels above ground contained small scouting and close-range combat vessels, but below ground the space actually widened and extended down into the darkness beyond where most eyes were able to see. Some of the bays below, at least the ones he could see, even looked large enough to hold small and medium transport and cargo ships.

To Ryou though, this was not a spaceport or a storage facility, it was a junk yard, a scavenging ground. This would be the site of his adventure and treasure hunt for an LS+ guidance cube. If that was all Serana needed to get her ship up and running, Ryou would be sure to find one so he could finally have a ticket off of this planet and get away from all these oppressive humans.

The one potential problem was the LS+ protocol was a newer major iteration, complete with newer hardware and software, and it was possible this facility was abandoned long enough that all of the ships would be obsolete. The unknown factors though were part of what made the scavenger hunt more fun; turned it into an adventure. Serana’s ship was a scout ship, so Ryou decided he would start on the upper levels. He jogged over to a ladder and quickly climbed his way upward.

The facility was abandoned long enough, and windows and doors on the lower levels were so thoroughly boarded up and sealed that Ryou hadn’t given much thought to the fact that there would be any form of security still in place. There certainly hadn’t been any security patrolling outside. In fact, the whole district seemed completely deserted.

As Ryou pulled himself up onto the next floor, he heard a distant beep echo from the shadows on the far side of the floor, followed by the sounds of a machine whirring to life. He was not alone, and what was more, the sounds were heading in his direction.
