Never to be a part

Iko

Iko’s natural hair color is white, matching the rest of her fur. She’s not largely accepted among fellow kitsune due to the curse mark on her forehead. Many avoid her like the plague as it’s a clear indication that she was marked for death by not just the gods but by Inari, the god that watches over all vulpine kin. In short she was cursed by the very god that created her. I’ll answer in more length if anyone cares to ask why.

I saw this: http://25.media.tumblr.com/30c9c191fc9385befcf3a29a87f6a0ce/tumblr_mw9t61aW0y1rub0hvo1_500.png picture among my feed and was inspired to work on a picture based on the same pallet. I rather liked working with a limited pallet.

Aw, poor Iko. Every time you show us more of her history, it gets that much more interesting, and that much more heartbreaking. If you're willing to say, I'd love to know why she's been cursed the way she has.

As for the art, this is really a gorgeous picture. The lighting effects are very well done, and I really like how the bright light from the fires makes Iko's hiding place, and the forest around them, look that much starker and colder. You can really feel her sense of isolation and of being cut off from her own kind. From the way she's watching them, it seems like she would join them if she could, while knowing she never can, and that just adds to the sense of coldness.

The detail in this picture is just breathtaking, especially the pine needles and the detail of Iko's hair. Speaking of which, she actually looks rather pretty with pure white hair, I think. The little sparkles on the snow are quite nicely done, too, and it really is a very beautifully done picture indeed.

I typed up a big thing just for ya and all, I hope it's not too badly written:

In my version Inari is often quite lecherous and likes to sleep around as many gods of lore did. He enjoyed his spirits and his women plenty often getting drunk and visiting his favorite girls(mind you these are all brothel women but the poor god was ever so in love with many of them.) In this one instance where our pygmy sized fox was conceived by a woman by the name of Kitsun' (yes I know so creative but many whore's never get creative names.) Kitsun' was quite a vile woman, once she happened upon the drunk and rather frisky deity she decided to take a chance in wooing him. To be the bride of a god, what a cushy and pampered life that was to a common slave folk! Seducing him was easy, bringing him to a happy ending not so much, as the god was very careful with his seed and hardly wanted to produce demi-gods willy nilly. Kitsun' being a creature that sustained from sexual intercourse soon bought him into breeding her, impregnating her then leaving him passed out in the service room. He awoke with a splitting headache that often followed a night of heavy drinking, a rather old vixen, she wore too much makeup and smelled much of the pipe. She didn't see him again until a short while after she had given birth to a litter of four. Enraged and humiliated that these kits had been conceived without his knowledge he attempted to destroy them, Kitsun' blocked him from making a killing blow but not before he cursed them swearing to make their entire existence miserable as much as he could. Sort of a petty thing for a god to do but they often threw fits over stupid things.

I'm so glad you noticed the little sparkles, I wasn't sure if I could pull it off, I didn't want to put too much or too little.

Thanks for sharing the story, and it's not badly written at all. In fact, it was quite well done, and very interesting besides. Though it's quite a sad little story, too, as it does seem a rather petty thing to do to curse children whose only fault was being born. Still, as you point out, that's deities for you, sometimes. I don't know whether it's better or worse that Iko's curse was not of her own doing, but it certainly does add an interesting twist to her history.

As for the sparkles, I think you've got just about the right amount. There's enough in the snow to give it a very realistic look, especially with the firelight, white staying subtle enough that it doesn't take things overboard. So I think you did a great job with that.

Hello, now i am interested in knowing what's going on in this picture. Is this after she came through that portal from her time? Or is she trying to get closer to the fire that her kind is gathering around? I always wondered if that diamond on her forehead meant something, and did she later dye her hair realizing she was never going to be accepted? So much question.

And this peace of art showing her history is just lovely Iko, I have to say i like the way the pine tree looks and then as you move up it starts to blur. I always want to ask if you will draw another picture that shows of that creative side that tells a story that rarely pops up in your commissions. Then you post this and I am just sitting there clapping my hands together in excitement.

I just noticed that one of the tags is fox So kind of maybe answers the question about her looking at her own kind from the brush.

She's looking at a trail of kitsunibi, which is fox-fire. A lot of kitsune travel around in this form to save energy and keep out of human sight.

This is some time before she found the portal, she often goes back and fourth now but finds more love in our world than her own however much it pains her. She's basically just watching them from a hiding place, yearning to be among those of her kind though she has to hide from them else they'll drive her away, call her names, and spit at her. May have gone as far as to try and maim her. Her mark is a curse mark put on her by the very god of all vulpine, Inari. It's sort of if "God" were to mark you some way that meant you were as bad as Satan and you walked around amongst a large group of Christians. That is put this back in an era similar to Fudal periods.

Awe, ok well that sucks greatly. Does that mean her brother you made like just a couple drawings of him. Also have that diamond mark on him?

This is absolutely beautiful Iko. Really. The lighting and shadowing is so smooth and really sets the tone / mood.
