A watery wish (critique requested)

How2101

Hello, human.

H-huh??

I see you standing there, by the water's edge.

Who, me?

You enjoy the ocean, don't you? I can see it in your eyes. You're loving this, aren't you? Weaving within the rolling waves, relaxing on the sun-soaked beach, swimming freely without the slightest of cares. Leaving your burdens on the shore for a few measly hours of bliss.
But now that's all come to an end, hasn't it? You'll be heading back to your home tomorrow. Back to your degrading job and your degrading life. Back onto the dull, lifeless land. Soon this simple, blissful time at the sea will be nothing but a fading memory, swamped by petty, mundane human concerns.

Yeah …

Why do you head back, then, if you hate it so much?

...

Why willingly crawl into your dark little hole to resume your meaningless path into obscurity? Why, when you can just stay here forever? Human society doesn't offer you this freedom. Is it because you think you can't escape? That the constricting chains of human responsibility is unavoidable? After all, I still forget humans have that whiny, fragile body they need to appease. Constantly hungry. Constantly thirsty. Constantly craving for more. Greedy. Needy. Completely inefficient.

No wonder you scurry aimlessly about your lives. You're chained both to your own body and to the human construct of 'science'. Chained to the land.

However, you don't have to be.

I am generous. I can free you from your restrictive human chains. All you have to do is follow me into the ocean.

Are you afraid? Your human body is, after all, horribly suited for an aquatic lifestyle. You can barely even swim in your artificial pools, let alone survive underwater!

I can fix that, give you a form that's perfectly adapted to the water. A perfect form.

All you have to do is say yes.

Yes.

Perfect.

Now feel, feel the frigid touch of the water’s edge as it laps against your feet. The freezing chill lingers for a second before oozing up your legs, along with tendrils of an aqua blue, rubbery material that snakes around your calves. More thick, gooey tendrils splash outwards from the water, wrapping tightly around your chest and shoulders, tugging you farther into the wave's beckoning embrace. The rubbery goo itself feels icy cold against your skin for a brief moment before being warmed by your leaking body heat, trapping it to create a perfect, thick barrier against the elements.

Large waves crash against your chest, threatening to knock you off your feet - which grow weaker by the moment as an odd tingling sensation radiates through the lower half of your body. It's as if you're not meant to stand on two, measly legs at all.

The air around you begins to feel unbearably cold to your unprotected, remaining human skin, causing you to shiver uncontrollably. The icy waves are equally frigid on your exposed skin, but slides effortlessly off of the slick rubber coat. Goo drapes your hands as you submerge them underwater, wrapping and weaving them together into three perfect clawed digits, gooey webbing stretched between to maximize speed within the water.

A final, powerful wave crashes into you, knocking you off your wobbling feet and submerging you completely. Slick, gooey water forces its way into your mouth, rapidly spreading into your bloodstream and beyond. Your entire body grows numb as your insides begin to get reshaped and molded to suit your new, aquatic needs. You feel a painful prick on your goo-covered neck as gill patterns begin to swirl and form on the shiny surface, the rubber piercing through your softening skin and quickly getting to work converting your neck to receive oxygen from the water. Isn't that so much more efficient? Your lungs shrink in size but remain intact, allowing you to still enjoy the best of both worlds.

Meanwhile, your attention is directed at your face - trails of rubber in the water cling to your hair and neck as you fumble around, your vision growing black as more painful needle-like sensations pierce the back and sides of your head. Unable to see, you can vaguely feel the goo smothering your head. The rubber rises upwards and over your side of your cheeks, fanning out into majestic fins. Your ears, already waterlogged and basically useless, go deaf completely as the nerves and hearing organs shift, becoming waterproof and adapting to maximize your underwater hearing. Your new, highly sensitive fins can 'read' the ocean around you, feeding you vital information including temperature, current speed, salinity, density, and other miniscule changes within the water.

Your mouth and nose become clogged with thick, heavy rubber, sending conflicting emotions of stress and pure, simplified pleasure. The euphoric glee begins to win with the ticklish sensation of gooey liquid accumulating in front of your face, expanding and stretching outwards into a dainty, cute muzzle. You instinctively gag as your old airpipe, plugged with solid rubber, shrivels into nothingness. For a frantic moment you feel like you're going to drown - until the newly developed gills embedded in your neck kick in with a start, delivering pure, fresh oxygen to your starved cells. It feels strange not needing your mouth to breathe ...

Your tongue and inside of your mouth lengthen, teeth falling out and being replaced by rubbery, razor-sharp fangs. Your nose seals up entirely, becoming nothing more than a painted-on decoration. Yet somehow, you can still smell - in fact, it's far better than ever before. You begin to pick up hundreds of scents - fish, rubber, humans - until your still human mind is easily overwhelmed by the new, raw data. To make the dizziness worse, you open your eyes to see the swirling waves around you - your wide, rubber-coated eyes work better in your new environment than the best human swim gear. Everything is painted perfectly in front of you. Watery refraction is automatically fixed to allow you to see for hundreds of feet through the clear blue water.

Suddenly, A massive current takes hold of your swirling, changing form, dragging you deeper underwater. The overwhelming, mighty force of the current presses against the rubber, forcing it to squeeze harder and harder against the vulnerable body underneath. Your ribcage cracks as your bones break, dissolving into the liquid rubber completely from the strain. However, a new, rubbery skeletal structure is quickly created and constructed to take its place. This new structure is superior in every way - strong enough to withstand the roughest currents, flexible enough to grant you a newfound sense of agility and speed far outpacing your previous form, and soft enough to dissolve into water like a true vaporeon. Like YOU.

For a creature of the sea, it's perfect.

As your mind struggles to grapple with the furiously intense new sensations, you become aware of a new, heavy addition to your revitalized spine - a large, muscular tail swings out in front of you, moving instinctively to your mental commands. You give it an order - and it responds instantly- the two wide, sturdy fins at the end propelling you out of the current and into calmer water.

You instinctively right yourself, floating within the water. For the first time, you're able to get a good look at yourself. Your brain has shifted, evolving to easily sort through the countless streams of sensory information you're now getting.

H … how does it lo … how do I look?

You look perfect, my new vaporeon.

Your new, streamlined body cuts through the ocean with ease, the water sliding around your sleek, silky skin like butter. It's soft, squishy, and insulates you from the harshest of climates. Even the coldest arctic ocean is little more than a cool summer pool. The latex surface is nearly unbreakable, leaving you all but impervious to any danger. Your new body is extremely agile, allowing you to perform feats of underwater agility impossible to a mere human. You're faster in the water. Stronger. Better. Even on land they'd be hard pressed to outrun you.

W-wow! This is, I-I can’t …

It's the perfect gift, my sweet vaporeon. I have freed you from the chains that bound you. Freed from all the pesky, mindless human chores and duties. Freed to spend the rest of your days in the beautiful ocean. All I ask in return is that you grant this perfect gift to others you will meet. Free others like I have freed you.

… Thank you!

No need to express your gratitude, my beautiful creature. I’ve simply opened some new doors for you. New places to explore, new adventures to be had - a whole new world free from the contamination of humanity and the stifling confines of land. Your new body gives you mastery over your new environment, where your human body struggled to even exist in it. This whole world is yours to exploit!

Now go enjoy yourself, my dear, perfect vaporeon.

Be free.
