I opened my eyes and found myself in that meadow again. Nothing but grass and flowers everywhere, I got up, and started running freely. Out of sudden, two figures joined me; I could not identify them, yet I knew they were familiar faces. There we were, just running; then the larger figure to my right mentioned something about the young one, the one who was ready to join us, the one who have been waiting for me for so long…

“Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We are beginning our descent in Mistralton City. Please fasten your seatbelts and store your large electronics for our final approach. Welcome to the Unova region!” The message from the captain woke me up from that dream I’ve been having several times lately. I stretched myself while keeping in the confinement of my seat before looking at the window. I could see all those landmarks from the Unova region I have only heard of. I was so excited to finally be here, and to explore all those places in search for the Legendary Pokémon I’ve been hearing of.

So, about me, my name is Owain. I am, I mean, was, a Pokémon researcher from the Johto region. I have always been fascinated with studying the Legendary Pokémon from all those stories you may have heard about. I started my career studying the Ruins of Alph, eventually got to see some of these Legendary Pokémon. Who else can claim that they have met with Pokémon such as Entei, Zapdos or even Lugia and Ho-Oh? Weird isn’t it, you may ask how someone as me could easily meet these Pokémon and take it lightly. The thing is there’s something that Pokémon like about me it seems, they have never been scared, tried to neither fight nor flee; it was like they feel comfortable with me in some way, even I could not explain this myself. This has helped me to meet not only Legendary Pokémon from Johto and Kanto; I’ve traveled as well to Hoenn and Sinnoh. All these sightings and close encounters with these Legendary creatures have helped with my research a lot.

Since I began my studies in the Ruins of Alph, I am skilled in reading the language of the Unown. This has also been a helping fact on my research; you would be surprised by the amount of Unown symbols you find in places where the Legendary Pokémon dwell. And I was pretty sure I would find some more in the Unova region; this was my first time travelling here, so my excitement was only increasing as our plane approached to Mistralton.

Finally, we landed here. I jumped out of my seat and was the first in line to get off the plane; I just could not wait for this new adventure to begin. As soon as I was on land I started to check for places to go visit. I could easily have headed northeast towards Icirrus to check Dragonspiral Tower in hopes to meet Zekrom or Reshiram; however, I did not wanted to rush right away for the big prize. For now, to begin I wanted to relax. So before anything, I just decided to sit down at the Pokémon center and review some of my notes. While there, I heard two travelers from the region mentioning something about some “symbol” Pokémon they spotted south of Mistralton; this got my attention, and had to ask them where and how I get there.
With no delay, I headed south towards Chargestone Cave. There was something odd about the Pokémon in there; they all stared at me in some mixture of surprise, excitement and admiration; something that never had happened before, at least with more common Pokémon. The route south of the cave was the same, many Pokémon looked at me in surprise and excitement, only increasing my curiosity of finding out what was exactly happening. Am I really so charming towards Pokémon that they really admire me like this? It was confusing actually, however, I didn’t pay much attention to it, it has happened before yes, but somehow these Unova Pokémon were more… attracted to me.

After a couple hours of walking, there it was, Mistralton Cave as the travelers at the city called it. I got in there in excitement as I’ve never really heard of this place before just to find myself in complete darkness, I brought a flashlight but was unsure the extension of the cave and how long my batteries will last; I could not recall to ever have been in such a dark place before, and started to wonder if this was really a good idea. I walked for what seemed miles and eventually my flashlight started to fade, I knew I was already far from the entrance, so decided to keep going in hopes to find an exit; however, I could not find anything, eventually my flashlight died and I was there in complete darkness. Wondered where were these friendly Pokémon, at least I would have seen Zubats I would think, but so far nothing. I tried to keep going by holding to the cave’s walls; I went like this for a few more minutes until I heard some familiar sounds. They seemed to be Unowns, I tried to hear them and follow the sounds; it was interesting the fact they seemed to be guiding me; I kept walking towards the source of the sounds and eventually saw some light. I headed in a faster phase towards the light thinking it was the exit, however, when I reached it, I found myself on a huge room in the cave. At least it was now illuminated; actually, it was as if there was artificial light in there. I looked around and saw on a side of the entry Unown symbols: “Guidance Chamber” it said. I could imagine this may be a place where a Unova Legendary Pokémon could be found! So I immediately started to check the place around.

After walking through this chamber for a while, I found signs of what appeared to be sword marks on the walls and some footprints that seemed like boots; and eventually, I saw what seemed to be an altar at a higher spot of the chamber. I found there what seemed to be a wavy horn of yellow faded color. I wondered if this was some sort of artifact to summon the Pokémon, as I was inspecting it I realized there were plenty of Pokémon staring from the bottom of the altar; actually; those were some of the Pokémon I saw on my way here. Did they follow me through that pitch dark cavern? How could they do such thing? Suddenly, they all bowed down to me, and then started to celebrate. What were they celebrating? At this point I was confused beyond anything; I tried to step down the altar when out of a sudden, eight Unowns rammed themselves towards me, making me fall on my rear end on top of the altar. In the commotion, I realized I dropped the mysterious horn, the impact pulverized it. At this point I didn’t know what was happening, when suddenly, the Unowns spoke to me “We have all been waiting for you for so long”. I was in shock, I could actually understand what they were saying. I turned around and I could also understand all the other Pokémon in the chamber. They were all screaming in excitement, but I manage to distinguish a few phrases, like “Their Leader is back!” and “We are all saved once again!” This was the weirdest thing ever, then the Unowns again “It’s time for you to take back the place where you belong.” And suddenly they started to emanate light as they formed a word and put themselves against the wall. “Cobalion” was the word, I said it loud in confusion, and then suddenly I felt like a volt of energy hit my body.

I was forced on all fours as I felt powerful, more powerful than ever before. My body started to heat up as I got scared now knowing what was happening to me. Then I felt something pushing on my forehead, I brought one hand towards it and I felt a bump over my eyebrow, checked my other eyebrow and the same; the bumps grew bigger and bigger, until my skin gave way to a bony appendix that kept on growing. I could actually feel these new appendixes grow larger and larger, they were wavy, and as every wave on them was growing I could feel discomfort about it. They eventually stopped, two thick horns in a yellow color, they actually were big enough to cover most of my forehead, with their bases resting right above my eyes. Then I started to feel my body growing, I noticed a patch of white fur starting to come from my chest, trying to break free from my shirt. I also noticed then that my shoulders started to grow some sort of yellow spikes, and some sort of collar started to grow around my neck, leaving a gap on the front. I was more scared than ever before as I saw my body changing. What was I becoming? Why me? I could only wonder at that point. My skin started to turn blue, the yellow spike like appendixes on my shoulders grew to a massive size, and the collar was coming up high enough to cover almost my entire head, yet leaving the gap for my face. I felt a discomfort on my back as a light blue appendix similar to my new shoulder blades started to emerge from my rear end like some sort of tail. All these new appendixes left me wondering, I’ve never seen any creature with anything like this before; I felt all these new features of my body with my hands when suddenly, my forearms and calves started to grow oddly different from the rest of my body; it seemed like I started growing some guards around them, on a light blue color while my hands and feet started to turn black; suddenly, my fingers felt numb, I noticed I could not move them anymore and in horror I saw them fusing together, same was happening to my toes; in a weird fashion, they were not fusing into hooves, but what seemed to be boots; and then my bones cracked as my body got reshaped to a four legged creature, my body seemed alien like, anything never seen before.

And then, the final change began, my head started to push forward, the skin color changing as well to a light blue while my hair was falling leaving a black like mark over my head. I shut my eyes as I started to feel different, some memories coming back to me; then it hit me. I was in reality the Legendary Pokémon known as Cobalion, I lead the Swords of Justice, Terrakion and Virizion to defend all the Pokémon from the Unova region. I was looked up to by every single Pokémon in the region; I had the respect from Zekrom and Reshiram over my courage and determination. What happened to me? I started to remember, a battle, I was badly injured in battle by a genetically modified bug Pokémon with a massive cannon on its back. I remember now, my body was too weak so I was left back in this altar; everyone hoping when I come back to life I’ll be back to take my place once again. And here I was, I opened my eyes, now a fierce amber color and I let out a battle cry as my Sacred Sword emerged from the top of my head.

I was back to where I belong, I retained my memories of when I was human, but now I also remembered who I really am. I greeted all the Pokémon in the chamber, all those who I sworn to protect and promised I’ll be back to them again. Then, I heard some familiar voices from a distance; they were like replies to my earlier roar. I could hear the mighty Terrakion (or Gourry as I called him) from top of a mountain, and the gracious Virizion (or Joyce as we liked to call her) from deep in a forest. I knew I had to get to them so we can all defend the Pokémon from the region. I started to descend from the altar, somehow I knew how to manage my body and I felt good to be in this natural position once again. The Pokémon moved to their sides looking at me in admiration once again. And then, there he was. A young horse looking Pokémon who stared at me with a big smile; “I’ve been waiting so long for your return Owain. I’m ready to become a Sword of Justice!” I smiled back at him and replied “Well then, let’s be on our way, we need to find Gourry and Joyce first, so we can begin your training.”

We both made our way out of the cave in search of our friends. Now you know why I said I “was” a researcher. I’m Cobalion, or Owain for my close friends, leader of the Swords of Justice and defendant of the Pokémon of the Unova region.

Hi there! So this is a commission done by Nyhgault of his Unown Transformation Series. I thought would be cool a Cobalion transformation, and it turned out nicely!
The story is something I came up with for this pic. Using Owain as the protagonist no his quest to take back his place as the leader of the Swords of Justice. Hope you all like!
