Tried to use photoshop and I remembered very, very quickly why I would rather use Sai.

It seems so time consuming. It probably isn't, though. I did this in under an hour? I'm just so.. not used to the brushes and I have no hot keys assigned so I have to flip the canvas the longg wayyy and just.. blah. It's so annoying.

Funny... I tried using SAI again and VERY quickly remembered why I vastly prefer PS. It's just.. I don't understand how to move around a canvas in SAI. In PS, I hold Z and move the pen on the tablet. To pan around, I hold the bottom pen button and move it around the tablet. In Sai... I suck it up and go into the zoom tool, or even worse.. pan with the scroll bars.

And I dunno... something about how it handles brush settings rubs me the wrong way. I'm not sure if it has brush presets I can switch to easily.

OH AND ALSO it keeps grabbing colors off the canvas because the pen button that Photoshop uses for panning is the color select button in SAI. @_@ I'm not sure there's even a way to change these button assignments either. I love menu-digging but never managed to find any...

I do love how smooth lines come out. It's like a dream <3... someone just needs to teach me how to make SAI not suck so I can actually use it. @_@

      OT:

      ALSO NICE ART :>

I think it's a successful attempt at photoshop, especially if you really don't use it at all.

Photoshop is industry standard in pretty much everything for a reason, lol. It's very dense and can do multiple things, so you have to learn how to make it do what you want to do, which won't happen in an hour. Just keep with it if you want to learn.

Still, it looks like you got the same effect you usually get in Sai.

Pretty much. It's not like I was really gonna stray from the usual things I do. ahaha.

And I actually used to use it pretty often back in the day, it's just been so long that I've grown used to Sai's usual shortcuts. I'm sure I'll get it in a few days if I really do want to pursue using it again. I'm gonna learn regardless haha

SAI is definitely a lot better for smoothing and making crisp, clean pieces but photoshop has it's own qualities about it too! which is why i could never fully quit it haha ;w; even though the lines are usually.. bulkier? messier? idk..but there's some weird kinda charm about coloring in photoshop. you should try messing around with the uh..natural brushes i think they are? the ones that look like little HAIRS cuz i saw another artist using those for painty works (centradragon) and it makes paintings look..really nice. :3 BUT I LOVE DIS <3 you keep getting better and better with colors and it's just awesome

& YEAH THE FLIPPING CANVAS THING IS THE ONE THING I CANT DEAL WITH THO LOL sdfssdf

i've always used photoshop. i'm at home there. this doesn't look bad to me at all, you may just need to get more used to ps's UI. one thing i will say is that SAI handles lineart much better than either ps or illustrator; though supposedly they are going to retool it in the next versions of ps.

Agree. Although, CS5's lines are much smoother than in previous versions of PS, so at least they're trying I suppose.
