So I drew the third born child of Sasami and Amitav in my canon divergence. I figured out Amitav’s last name. I looked up some Ainu words to hopefully build a name for Subaru initially. However, I decided the name ‘Young Spring’ or ‘Child Spring’ could be the literal meaning behind his surname, but I could be mistaken (I did try to look up an Ainu dictionary).

Subaru is often a sleepy child, especially growing up as a toddler. While it was refreshing for a parent, Sasami and Amitav have grown concerned. The result was that Subaru has narcolepsy and it was basically Subaru’s own genetics getting the worse of him. (Amitav is not blood related to either Sasami or Tsunami) and Amitav learns it is basically the instincts from the species his race has initially evolved from who would often hibernate in the winter solstice on the planet before its star died and destroyed said planet. Subaru often would be awake in the summer time the most because of this as a kid.

His narcolepsy wasn’t as severe when he was a teenager. In fact, he started going to school with the rest of the Tenchi kids his age. He has a crush on Tenchi’s daughter with Ayeka, however due to his conflicted feelings (he was taught that incest was wrong despite being a Juraiyan princess’s son at school…) and his lack of a voice (Oh yeah, he also doesn’t really speak…) he never got to express it to her, and in the end, he watched her fall in love with Seina’s son with Kiriko instead of him. While he is very depressed from this initially, he eventually is happy for her, but it does take a bit of time for him to accept this.
