Maelynne is important to me, because she was the biggest "oh, duh" moment when I realized I'm nonbinary. She's been in and out of my head for a decade or more, back when I thought I knew a lot because I went to school with a few gay, lesbian, and bi people. (I was sheltered.) I didn't know her name, or color scheme. She was a sexless, chubby deer, with a rather androgynous body and small antlers. She used feminine pronouns because she didn't want to be called 'it', but always clarified that she wasn't a girl. And I so desperately wanted to be her. I've finally drawn her, and I know a lot more now. There are a few labels that come close to describing her, but I think that nonbinary is the best fit. I'll draw her again some day, because this doesn't quite feel like her. I'm glad that a version of her is in the world, though.
