Pink Springtime Gryphon

HollyAnn

The last of the springtime gryphons for 2014! This one also features a new mutation, although it's hard to see in the photo, called Odd Cat Eyes, which has one eye one colour, and the other eye another colour.

The mutations for this one include: Odd cat eyes, mane, eagle talons, dual-coloured wings, and lion tail.

    Adorable!

How do you make the mane? Do you just brush out the yarn's plies?

Pretty much, but I untwine each yarn out, and then brush it out. It can take forever to do, but the result is very, very fluffy! =D

That's genius! Does it stay in place like that or do you treat it in some way to make it stay put? :3

Nope, it stays like that :) If it gets messy or out of place, I just brush it back to the way it was, or sometimes just "petting" it over to groom it back in place is all it needs too :)

Sweet! I'll need to try this, I have a pattern for pony plushies (knitting) but I wasn't sure about using plain yarn for the manes and tails. Brushing it out sounds like a great way to make it nicer! :3

When I used to make ponies, I'd just give them yarn strands for the mane and tail, and sometimes I'd just untwine them to give them that 80s krimped hair look :) When you brush it out though, you'll lose some length to it, so you won't have a long flowing mane. The length you see on the mane of that gryphon is about as long as it'll get when you brush it out ;)

Oh, thanks for the tip! I'll play around with it, see what works best. :3

                  Not a problem! :)
