Hydra Lullaby by Hexadoodle

Hydra Lullaby

So multiple heads are great no matter what, BUT... for some reason I am absolutely in love with the concept of a multi-headed creature speaking in parts. The kind with one consciousness (or multiple, but they're so in tune with one another that they can speak as though they were one), doing a mix of alternating sentences or words or even syllables, speaking in unison or even different words at once. Singing in this way is nice, but talking really emphasizes that oh gosh it's three of the same voice that's all one person talking to me all at once and they're doing all sorts of cool effects aaaaaaa

I wanted to illustrate this so much, so I went looking for a really good poem, something that would be super satisfying to speak and hear, and I found the winner: "Seal Lullaby" by Rudyard Kipling. It works equally well in the mouths of a hydra mom or dad with their little one.

Representing it in visual form was tricky! I thought of having three separate speech bubbles around the screen but that was just going to be disorientating to read. Superimposing the different parts was the only thing that worked. I kept the text in all the same font and size with only minor variations to emphasize the sameness, but different colors to distinguish them. Too many more variations would make the voices feel too divergent. I'm super happy with the result. :D
