Ever since I met some local suiters a few years ago, I'd been kicking around the idea of getting my own. I joked pretty often that I would just need swim flippers, kitchen gloves, and a red stretchy suit (but would have to commission the head). The more I thought about it, the more feasible it seemed, and pretty soon I was asking around about materials and methods and tutorials. I considered commissioning, but it seemed simple enough to do myself and I would get to have complete control over the process.

All in all this took 2 weeks and under $200 to make; I hugely lucked out by not having any fur and having a lot of free time, and it was surprisingly easy to do, just time-consuming! I put together some progress shots; maybe they'll help anyone who wants to make something similar.

It's super fun to wear and dance around in. We get almost zero chance to suit near where I live, but I'm looking at cons in the near future.

Foam base + lycra suit + fleece. Moving jaw. No spring-loaded tongue or attachable extra arms. Yet.

Nice! But you seem kind of deflated!

Well, I hope recovery is little more than a hop, skip, and a jump away!

Wow, that's a great first suit! Seems to be missing a few pairs of limbs, though. :p
