Diamond Back Rattlesnake Skeleton(before peroxide bath)

HAZARD

Here is the result of the Diamond Back Rattlesnake I had received from creatureundertaker, this is after it was placed in a PVC pipe(with holes for insects to devour the remains). I left it there for several months before finally pulling it out today to inspect how decomposed it was and if it was ready for the next step. It looks like the insects did a lovely job, and though I had to pull the skeleton apart in 3 different places(not including the head) to fit in the container, it was all there.

The body is soaking in a Hydrogen Peroxide bath to remove the leftover dried flesh and the head is soaking in a 91% rubbing alcohol....this is to break down any leftover venom that could be lurking so I don't have an accident and have to run to the ER. Even though the venom might be gone, i still want to play it safe, and venom is protein based so the alcohol does the trick. Tomorrow the head will soak in it's own HP solution.....might leave the body soaking for one day extra.

The neck vertebrae look damaged(it was killed via shooting...not by me) and the head might have to be put back together.

But the bones will come out(when done) all nice and white and clean!
Then it's onto sorting the bones and then the long task of articulating them.....and this being my first bone articulation...this will be a challenge.

Awh, who shoots a snake? That's kinda unfortunate. But, these things happen...

Looks like a lot of very intricate work ahead of you! Wishing you luck :)

it's a pretty long snake, so a lot of ribs and verterbrae to work with >< i'll probably look more forward to finishing it than working on it haha.
