Ginko Huo-Long is a former wandering martial artist, the legendary Inheritor of Lie Kong Zuo Quan (The Fist of the Dragon King, Rayquaza). Abandoned as a child and raised by Urshifu monks, she was functionally groomed into becoming the ultimate martial arts hobo from childhood. This means she is incredibly powerful in both hand-to-hand combat as well as most forms of traditional weaponry like spears and the dao.  Problem is she has no idea how to socialize outside of stoic fight banter, which bugs her immensely. Thus she bothers the first person to beat her and talk to her like a typical individual: Melanie Vanneleigh.

Her uncanny ability to track Melanie for a fight, believed to be a signature trait of all Wandering Warriors, is critical when Melanie and Melissa find themselves trapped against the Letterman without comms. Somehow, Ginkgo's bond as a rival allowed her to get to Melanie and save her, and her strength managed to impress Dr. Burton (and more important, Melanie) enough to join as a member of the budding Team Cross.
