This is a storyboard I did as part of a group assignment for school. Our assignment was to storyboard a scene from a Batman The Animated Series script that was never produced entitled "All That Glitters." As far as my teacher knows, the makers of the Batman animated series never had any voices recorded for this script or any character designs done, so we had free reign to do those things on our own. The scene my group chose to storyboard was the episode's climax when Batman confronts William Croesus, a villain-of-the-week who has the King Midas golden touch. The ending of the battle was the segment I drew. I also designed Croesus' appearance.

Make sure to check out the other people that were in my group! They helped me a lot.

Also, thanks to :iconwufwoolz: for helping me on Croesus's design!

Here's a synopsis of the episode's script that should help give this storyboard some context. If you're only interested in learning why this episode was never aired and would rather skip the synopsis, just read the last paragraph below.

The episode opens with Batman stopping a theft in the Gotham museum. The thieves were trying to steal an artifact known as the Mask of Hermes, which said to have mystical powers and grant immortality or turn gold into lead. Batman then becomes a sponsor of the museum under his secret identity as Bruce Wayne so he can meet Dr. Dana Jennings, the archeologist that discovered the Mask of Hermes, and learn more about it. We then cut to the offices of Croesus Industries and learn that the thieves were trying to steal the mask for William Croesus, the owner of the company. We see one of the thieves meet with Croesus to apologize for failing to steal the mask. Croesus then removes a glove he's wearing and shakes hands with the thief, and we cut away as the man screams in agony, not seeing what happens to him. We then cut to the next day and Croesus visits Gotham Museum himself and meets with Dana. While looking at the Mask of Hermes, he asks Dana to help him test a belief...

Later that evening, Commissioner Gordon and the Gotham police are at the museum investigating the disappearance of Dana and the mask. Batman arrives and Gordon tells Batman that Dana's dayplanner says she scheduled a meeting with Croesus before she vanished, tipping Batman off to search for him. Batman arrives at Croesus Industries and sees the thief from earlier is now a golden statue. He then gets stuck fighting several of Croesus's thugs. Meanwhile, under Croesus manor, Dana awakens tied up in a cave with a replica of an indigenous village and Croesus is dressed in ceremonial garb. He takes off a fake face he was wearing and reveals that he is completely golden, explaining that the Mask of Hermes had cursed him when he was younger and that he is incapable of feeling anything in this state. He believes sacrificing Dana as part of a ritual with the mask will undue the curse. Suddenly Batman swings down to save Dana! (this is where the segment my group storyboarded begins) Batman tries to punch him, but Croesus grabs his arm and turns Batman's glove into solid gold. Batman discards the glove (this is why Batman is missing a glove in my boards) and tries to throw a batarang at Croesus, but he catches it, causing it to turn gold. He throws it behind him, landing next to Dana. Croesus lunges after Batman and tries to hit him, but Batman keeps dodging. Finally, Croesus corners Batman onto a cliff and Batman loses his footing and falls off, but grabs a ledge before he plummets into a river below. Croesus taunts Batman for a while and Batman warns Croesus that sacrificing Dana won't restore his humanity. Suddenly Dana calls Croesus and he turns around. She freed herself from her bonds and throws the golden batarang that was next to her at Croesus, but she misses. With Croesus distracted, Batman uses his grapple gun to get back up and lands in between Dana and Croesus. Croesus lunges to attack Batman, but then Batman takes off his cape and ties it around Croesus's hands. The cape turns into solid gold and Croesus struggles very hard to free his hands, causing himself to lose balance and fall into the river below. The river turning gold wasn't in the script though. That was something my group and I added. I'm afraid it might look like Croesus took a massive piss in the river though...

So why was this episode never made? My teacher said that while he doesn't know for sure, he speculates that some elements in the script may have been too weird (for example the gang of thieves in the opening are all described as wearing hover boots). He also thought the ending fight had parts that just didn't feel right. He didn't think Batman would let Croesus push him off a cliff so easily, and that Batman talking to Croesus while hanging on a ledge was too strange. He felt Batman would just climb back up immediately rather than waste time bantering with the villain. But what do you all think? Does the synopsis sound like it would have been a good Batman episode?
