Yeah I know, I'm two months late to post some Japanese Paw Day art, but I'm pretty busy irl so I'm terrible at meeting holiday deadlines. But on the plus side, I'm a month early for regular Paw Day on May 20th! And since it's 4/20 today, maybe I should have an edit in which Basho has a joint in his mouth? Just kidding. Anyway, some of you may have seen on Twitter February 9th is Paw Day in Japan (written as 肉球の日 or nikukyū no hi), when there's already a Paw Day on Furaffinity in May. But Japanese Paw Day has nothing to do with furries as far as I know, though that doesn't stop furries and weebs from adapting it! The Japanese word for paws or paw pads 肉球 (Nikukyū) uses the same sounds for saying the numbers of the date 2-9 (二九 or ni ku/kyū). Thank you to CryoGanix for explaining this wordplay! Basho has no paw pads on his feet, but he still celebrates the day with some paw pad pillows to snuggle with.
