Before he was a dragon god, Basarla was a normal dragonite who served as a royal retainer to the former dragon god of light, Lothurr. Back then, he was known as Basarla Kayrahan.

Emperor Basarla is no stranger to tragedy. He lost his brother Kan Laon and his wife to a horrible sickness that spread in his home village of Fahnahah many centuries ago, leaving Basarla to raise his orphaned niece Samshin. The two bonded for centuries and Samshin was like a daughter to Basarla.

But then, Princess Persis of the gorgon clan tried to invade Gimlie and turned anyone who opposed her into stone. In a failed attempt to possess Samshin, the dragonite girl fought off the demoness and ended up petrifying herself with the evil gorgon princess, thus, bringing peace to Gimlie once more.

When Lothurr and Karulla fought each other to the death, Basarla inherited the soul of the fallen dragon god and become the new dragon god of light. As Karulla died fighting Lothurr, Melektaus inherited the fallen phoenix god's soul and there, Basarla and Melektaus became enemies for centuries, but Basarla demanded a cease fire from the Phoenix's light kingdom.

There, Basarla met a dragonite woman named Tala. After getting to know her and going on many adventures with her, Basarla and Tala fell in love and got married. But then, tragedy struck again when Tala was pregnant. Tala was diagnosed with a terminal illness in her brain and had to deliver the egg early. After the egg hatched, Basarla took off with the baby, and had Tala bond with their baby daughter before she died. After the baby was born, Tala named her daughter Mayarie, and Basarla promised his dying empress to take good care of the princess.

There, Basarla raised Mayarie with the help of the Palazzo family, and grew very fond of his daughter, and his daughter grew equally fond of him. There, when the Palazzo's daughter, Bianca grew up with Mayarie, she became their royal retainer, as well as a best friend and sister figure to Mayarie, who had no brothers nor sisters of her own.

After Mayarie got married and laid eggs, the Princess ended up sacrificing her freedom to save her husband and children from Melektaus. After Mayarie broke out with the help of Basarla and their friends, Lord Basarla is now determined to reunite Mayarie with her estranged husband and children, as well as protecting his homeland from enemy invaders.
