5000lbs of Target Practice

Thanators rarely hunt during the day, and even more rarely do they risk attacking targets as big as AMP suits. Well nowadays they don't, but back when the RDA first landed on Pandora attacks like this were not uncommon. Here we see a young adult Thanator attacking an AMP suit, hoping that its sheer size would throw if off balance, however the pilot was able to react and it has only caused one of the retaining pins in its right foot to shear off. The pilot, concerned with providing some cover to the exposed dura-glass of his cockpit window, raises his arm to take the brunt of its downward swing. Thankfully for him he was also to get his chain gun up enough to properly defend himself. Just a bit of target practice really.

The AMP suit featured is of the MK. V design (and was eventually phased out by the more modern MK. VI design).
Though unauthorized modifications and personalization is usually not condoned, the RDA has made concessions for what it deems as "exceptionally harsh climates". Pandora is one of them.

This suit has auxiliary armor plating along the shoulder joints and pilot cabin to prevent penetration of the pilot's cabin and damage to the exposed shoulder joint.
The cockpit window was completely overhauled, adding in a double paned dura-glass with smart motion interface that acts as a large HUD capable of complete night, infrared, and heat vision screen filtering.
Its weapon is a modified GAU-70 Chain gun (later replaced by the GAU-90s seen in the movie).

Removal of excess gas vents increases muzzle velocity
Addition of larger muzzle brake helps to dampen the recoil caused by the removed vents
Shortening of internal chain mechanism increases fire rate and increases overall reliability
Longer barrel increases muzzle velocity and accuracy
Loading bar across the side instead of along the top improves handling in the confined spaces often faced in the jungle underbrush.

After too long being inactive with sculpting I figured needed to get back into working with clay and this idea was something that really inspired me. Even though sculpting something like this after practically 3-4 years of not sculpting was pretty worrying for me, that i might really screw it up, I still proceeded. And over all it was a wonderful learning experience that shook off some rust and added new know-how to future works, and I think it turned out pretty good.
