SPECIAL ABILITIES

Tongue (Ex)

An arcane toad’s tongue is a primary attack with reach equal to three times the beast’s normal reach (30 ft. for a Large arcane toad). An arcane toad’s tongue deals no damage on a hit but can be used to grab. An arcane toad does not gain the grappled condition while using its tongue in this manner.

Breath Weapon (Su)

When threatened, an arcane toad belches out a cloud of magical gas with a radius of ten feet. Any creature caught in this cloud must succeed a DC 16 fortitude save or be transformed into a toad (as per the Baleful Polymorph spell).

ECOLOGY
Environment: any temperate or warm swamp
Organization: Solitary or pair
treasure: none

Arcane toads are largely docile creatures and will usually ignore adventurers that don’t bother them, though they can become a hazard to certain livestock animals such as sheep or goats if they live near grazing fields. Although harmless to humanoids if given a wide berth, arcane toads will attack if someone approaches within ten feet, usually responding with its magical breath weapon first.

An arcane toad does not see humanoids as prey and will generally not attempt to eat them, but it may bite and reflexively swallow creatures that escape their breath weapon if they continue to attack it. It will not pursue adventurers who flee, and will attempt to flee itself if reduced to half its hit points.
