Acoustic Night at the Ochre Star

Gazerfoxie

"...The Ochre Star comes into view. The neon sign atop the squat, old brick building unsurprisingly is a golden brown star, with “OCHRE STAR” written across it in pink and green. There's graffiti on the outside walls, but for those familiar with local musicians... “Band names,” she explains. “A lo've bands pu' their names up on the wolls, or insoide, when they play 'ere. I's koind've a respect thing tha' you don' cover someone else's up. The ci'y complains abou' i' sometoimes, bu' we're down by the docks, so 'oo gives a shi', roigh'? Bu'... eh, you know people.” Outside, there is a line of various folk around Verse's age, some younger, and a few much older, all here for the advertised “Accoustic [sic] Nite!” which is printed on a large banner hung under the neon sign..."
"The first performances pass by rather quickly, thankfully, and although neither of them is particularly bad (Verse can be seen swaying to the rhythm of the music, so apparently she likes it, at least,) when Verse comes up, she looks a little nervous and unprepared when she moves to sit on a stool at the center of the stage. She gracefully slips into position, sitting atop it, her old, battered guitar nestled in her lap, and her cigarette put out for the moment. She taps the microphone, wrinkling her nose, producing a pair of dull thuds, before grinning sheepishly. Squinting, she looks out at the assorted twenty-somethings, and her friend far in the back, although from her spot, it's pretty hard to see much of anything. Before she even speaks, her fingers have already fallen onto the strings. The vixen holds the guitar oddly, and she strums on the neck of it, occasionally just flat out pinching the strings down onto the neck to produce quick arpeggios and chords, allowing the notes to change at times, by letting up with her clawtips. She'd spent her time backstage not only tuning her guitar, but tying bells into her tail, and putting on an anklet which also bore bells, perhaps used for rhythm. Now that she'd taken a seat, she taps the floor twice with her heel. Another dull thud. A couple shakes of her tail and pats of her heel later, and she's got her rhythm section in effect. “Evenin', Ochre Star...” she croons, sounding a lot more confident than she had in person.
For the next twelve minutes, in fact, she seems like someone else entirely. Gone is her nervous twitching, gone is her difficulty with words, and gone is her overly self-conscious nature. She performs only three songs in the space of that time, but nonetheless, each one seems to carry a profound effect on her. She plays one of her own songs, a cover, and finishes off with another of her's. She only talks in bits between songs, and although she's charismatic, she's succinct. Other than saying she has CDs for sale at the end, she's quick to leave, too. The audience had seemed to appreciate her, something that had made her grin quite a bit, even if she looked a tinge sheepish. By the time the next performer is on their second song, she's materialized out of the crowd, and is back near Stargazer's table once more..."

Gift art for a good friend and excellent and imaginitive roleplayer. I couldn't pass up a chance to capture Verse pouring it out acoustic style on stage. Probably my favorite piece of all time.
Verse © her player. Thanks for the inspiration, hun.
