Ugh I was not feeling good today (I think it's hormones, maybe) so I made this self indulgent character to relax me, and as I designed them they sort of... turned into a species idea..... lol
You might recognize the style, it's the same one I used for the potion sippers! This is because the species are related to each other, they are sort of distant cousins species-wise and share a symbiotic relationship!
before I continue, here's a quick recap on the potion sippers

These guys also have dragon ancestry though they aren't the same level intelligence-wise as sippers.
They live in the same high-up mountains as the sippers where the air is thick with magic, although unlike the sippers, this species grazes on the exotic plants that grow in the area. Their fur absorbs the magic in the air and stores it in the crystals growing from their head and tail, which allows them to cast very potent spells to defend themselves from predators. They aren't too keen on doing that though, since it leaves them vulnerable until they can refill their magic reserves.
This is where the sippers come in, they provide these guys with shelter and also help them find plants to graze on (basically... like sheep). In return, the sippers can feed on the magic that builds up in their fur!
This arrangement between the two species is very precious, since they are a valuable source of food for the sippers, especially when food is scarce. These creatures are considered sacred to them as a result, and the job of shepherding or taking care of one of these creatures is considered an incredible honor.

Other things:
Ear length and floppiness varies, as well as tail length and possibly fur allocation and crystal size
The color of the crystals indicates the type of magic that the individual is able to absorb in it's fur. The more magic stored, the brighter the crystals glow.
They have fleshy wing-like flaps just like the sippers do! They also work the same way, the area under the wing repels the magic in the air and allows them to fly (though it's mostly gliding) obviously places with less magic in the air would prevent them from using this feature, but they don't have to worry about that since they never leave the mountains where the magic is thick.
They do not have glamor magic like the sippers do, but sippers ca 'draw' on them with their magic just like they do on their own bodies! The drawings are not permanent, they can be altered or removed completely.

I plan on this species being a special thing for people who own a sipper (when that species is launched itself... sheesh) They will be very limited, being allowed to own one would be considered a huge reward just like it is in the story.
