Obamouse by FriskyWoods

Now for your Nintendo Famicom! Or, uh, maybe not.

Anyway, this was a discarded drawing that I decided to resurrect, in light of Obama's widening lead over Mitt Romney. I haven't always been happy with Barack's leadership- his wimpy net neutrality bill led me to draw two of my characters kicking him in effigy- but compared to Mitt Romney, he might as well be a giant robot built from George Washington, Abe Lincoln, and both Roosevelts. (And I, Harry Truman, will form the head!)

I wish I didn't have to explain the parody, but since I'm at least ten years older than most of my viewers, I fear I have no choice. There was a game from the early 1980s called Mappy, which took much of its inspiration from cartoons like Tom and Jerry. You were a mouse policeman, infiltrating the headquarters of a feline mafia and confiscating their stolen merchandise. When mew-kuza leader Goro and his Mewkie thugs tried to catch you, you could escape their clutches by bouncing on trampolines. There were also radioactive doors, which could be opened to sweep away your pursuers. (No, I don't get it either.)

You may have seen the sequel, Mappyland, on the Nintendo Entertainment System. It wasn't as good, but it did a better job of capturing the wacky antics of the cartoons that had inspired the first game.

In the interest of full disclosure, I got the cartridge image from a contest called Famicase, which you can learn more about here:
