I used gouache to paint the background, I used Burnt Umber and Yellow Ochre.

I used graphite, a fine tipped marker, and white gel pen to make the character.

In the original pic, the character is much darker and the background a bit lighter, sorry again for that. Also there is a lot more contrast in the original.
